The following is the transcript of a presentation given by former Principal, Steve Chartier to our Middle School students:
Our logo is a visual sign that highlights who we are and what we stand for.
Background Color – Navy Blue: Primary color adopted by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, which Order of Religious nuns founded Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School in 1903.
Interior Color – Forest Green: Primary color of the Irish, which immigrants established Sacred Hear of Jesus School in 1923, by the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
Color Highlight of Or – the herald color of gold – sign of regency (regent = one who reigns or rules)
The Shield – outlined in regent gold symbolizes strength, dignity, honor and the readiness to act as a herald of Christ. Holy Family Academy will continue to graduate Crusaders—Christians who have received instruction in their faith and are prepared to convey or proclaim it.
Open Book with a Cross. To become a herald we have recourse to this open book. . . In fact, to many books, which represent the quest for learning and knowledge. The cross highlights the greatest book of all, namely, the Bible, the benchmark or guide for all that we human beings should do, think, or say.
Left and right of the Shield are Laurel Leaves of Victory. The prize at the Greek Olympic Games was the Laurel Wreath to be worn on the victor’s head. The leaves of victory symbolize a Classical Education, based on the premise that there is such a thing as truth, beauty, and goodness. The work of Holy Family Academy is to imbue or pass on to each and every student the desire to know Truth, to appreciate Beauty, and the ability to know right from wrong and to want to be morally upright or good.
Holy Family – Jesus, Mary, and Joseph – were first physically united at the Incarnation, the birth of Jesus Christ, Christmas in a stable. Jesus was placed in a manger where came forth both Kings and Shepherds, the rich and the poor, to worship Him. Holy Family Academy welcomes all to participate and to grow in Wisdom, Grace, Strength . . .
. . .the Wisdom of Christ, who is Truth, the Grace of Mary, who most humbly said “Yes!,” when asked if she would bear the son of God, and the physical and moral Strength of Joseph.
Academy. Holy Family Academy. Aristotle, one of the most famous philosophers of the 4th century before Christ, established the first Academy, The Lyceum—a society of learned persons organized to advance art, science, or literature. Your teachers, in partnership with your family, seek to develop HFA students into graduates who, in the truest sense of the word, will be “Heralds of Christ!”—students who will grow In Wisdom, Grace, and Strength before God and Mankind.
